Words Matter: The Exhibition

For International Women’s Day 2024, This Ends Now collaborated with Newport based art gallery, Gallery 57, and Laura Harris, curator, to host the ‘Words Matter’ exhibition. The exhibition consisted of feminist artwork that encapsulates This Ends Now’s ‘Words Matter’ initiative, which aims to prevent Male Violence against Women and Girls (MVAWG) through challenging victim blaming and misogynistic narratives within the police and media.

The exhibition launch was an incredible success, with prominent local politicians attending including MPs, Members of the Senedd, and Council Leads.

We were thrilled to be invited to showcase the exhibition at Gwent Police Headquarters for White Ribbon Day in November 2024 by Police and Crime Commissioner, Jane Mudd.

This was an incredible opportunity to take the ‘Words Matter’ initiative to the heart of the police. The exhibition aims to spread awareness of the importance of language and accurate reporting  to prevent misogyny and victim blaming. We understand that the media often takes inspiration directly from police press releases, so this was an opportunity to tackle the issue at the source.

We are excited to announce that the exhibition is now heading to Pontypridd Library from 17th February to 5th April 2025. We were honoured to be invited by MP Alex Davies-Jones, who previously served as Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding, to bring this impactful artwork to Pontypridd. The ‘Words Matter’ exhibition continues to challenge harmful narratives and highlight the importance of language in addressing MVAWG and we can’t wait to see where we will take it next.
